About a month-in during our 100 day trial for our new Leesa mattress (purchased through their site), my wife and I agreed that the mattress was too firm. Though the mattress felt comfortable from laying on it for a short time, we were waking up with sore backs/necks every morning - and this is what led us down the path of the mattress topper shuffle. Note: we did try Mattress Firm and other mattress stores, but we didn't find anything that we felt blew us away in our price point so we agreed to see if adding a mattress topper would provide us with the right amount of adjustment to the mattress. And for reference, she is a side sleeper (sometime back) and I sleep on my stomach/side/back (trying to not sleep on stomach as much as it's not good for my back/neck) and are average weight. Also, we started the trial with our mattress onthe carpet floor and added a bed frame (with a MDF board over the slats to support the memory foam mattress) during this search. On to it...---We started with the Everything I read says we should be sleeping on a firm mattress for optimal support. So We replaced our 20 year old pillow top, sagging mattress with a Casper. Not to knock Casper, but it was just too firm. We thought we were supposed to just get used to it (firmer is better for you right?) so we kept it.Fast forward a year later: still tossing and turning and waking up sore. Rather than replace a mattress I looked into a topper. Things have come a LONG way since tempurpedic was the new kid in mattress town. After HOURS of research, I settled on the Red Nomad (still curious about the name). 3" thick king sized model. BEST. DECISION. EVER.Some Stats: I am 52, 5' 8" and 120 pounds. Husband is 60, 6' 2" 205 lbs. I give this info because it was helpful in my own research to see if size/age wise the mattress toppers suited them. Anyway, We topped it with a plush, bamboo mattress pad which made a great topper even greater. But not necessary. It's fine on it's own w/ just a standard mattress protector. It is a game changer folks. It fills in all the "hollow" spots for me, lower back, waist and hips, and neck/shoulders. I am a side sleeper (mainly b/c back sleeping was so uncomfortable w/ a firm mattress) but can now sleep on my back in comfort. No more wedging 37 pillows to prop up my hips, or shoulders, and align spine. Husband sleeps on side and loves it. We both have had sore shoulders and necks from improper alignment in the past. This topper "fills" in all the gaps and you just sort of settle down into it. I've read that some think it's too soft. I was wary about that, but for us it was the answer we were looking for.I can't stress enough the difference this has made for our sleep quality. I am so grateful to have found a solution!A couple of things to think about:1. off gassing: Yes, we had to let it sit for a night and even then it had that smell for about a week, (though it decreased every day) but after that no problem. We had expected this so were prepared to wait it out.2. Size: I was concerned that it seemed to be an inch or two small than my mattress all the way around, but it wasn't an issue at all. It actually fits our mattress like a glove. Their dimensions are accurate for the king.3. You may need to get a different pillow. I found that my tempupedic pillow for side sleepers was actually too firm and ended up using a firm down pillow that I already had. The down pillow, though classified as firm had more "give" than my memory foam pillow and worked better with the softer mattress topper. I found that having a firmer pillow, when I would lie down, my body would sink blissfully into the Nomad topper, but my head and neck remained above as if on a raft, at an uncomfortable angle. So be aware you may need a lower head pillow.I would recommend this product to anyone who, like me, wakes up feeling like they've been run over (sore, stiff,) This was the ticket for us. Good luck.
